Nicholas is a dedicated, full-time artist who has spent over a decade refining his craft. Based in the artistic and coastal town of, Napier he draws constant inspiration from the natural surroundings of Hawke's Bay and beyond. Plein air to studio

Growing up in a creative family where art was encouraged (apart from crayons on the walls, (...it wasn't me!) there was no shortage of inspiration. I decided to paint full time 14 years ago and now enjoy painting in a loose impressionist style, often painting en plein air (painting outdoors). This method informs my studio paintings, achieving a distinctive style and strong composition filled with natural light and emotion. It has its challenges, especially with the weather (my easel being blown over in the wind for example), but working this way creates a scense of depth and movement that is difficult to achieve in the studio alone.

I have been fortunate to have held a number of solo and group exhibitions over my art career and won some awards along the way. My paintings have been aquired by many private collectors worldwide and represented by galleries throughout New Zealand.
